In brief

The strengths of our Degree in Early Childhood Care and Education

Early Childhood Care and Education is an interdisciplinary programme at the intersection of 3 fields: social work, health-related care, and education.

The programme focuses on early childhood, meeting a real-world need in the sector and addressing current societal issues.

Practice-oriented work placements are organised from the first year.

Good to know

This is a joint Degree programme offered by the Haute Ecole Ephec (30 credits) in collaboration with the ISFSC (30 credits).

A career in children’s care work

Children’s care work is an interdisciplinary profession at the intersection of 3 fields: social work, health-related care, and education.

By providing support, education, and preventive care, children’s care work involves carers building an educational relationship with young children, helping to maintain and improve their health and well-being, and supporting their development.

Childcare workers provide an environment in which young children can develop in favourable conditions, meeting their daily needs, while respecting their rights.

The roles and responsibilities of childcare workers are quite varied:

  • welcoming and accompanying children in childcare settings
  • providing childcare
  • supporting parenting
  • coordinating the projects or actions of childcare teams
  • working in multidisciplinary teams, partnerships, and networks.

The Programme of Study

  1. Year (bloc) 1

Bloc 1 is devoted to observing childcare practices and young children. You will learn the basics of early childhood education, health, and psychology.

  2. Year (bloc) 2

Bloc 2 focuses on approaches to caring for young children and their families. Relational skills become a key focus along with understanding the environment in which young children and their families live.

  3. Year (bloc) 3

In bloc 3, you will learn how to manage the professional situations you may encounter in care work in your courses (theory and practice), on your work placements, and working on your final-year dissertation. The latter two tasks count for a quarter of the year's credits.
